You will arrive in Dublin on June 29, and depart Dublin on July 9.
Day 1 - Dublin - Fáilte!
Welcome! You will be met upon your morning arrival by a private driver and brought to your city center hotel. Dublin, the capital of Ireland, boasts quite the history and a reputation!
Founded in 841 by the Vikings, Dublin is a city with an interesting past and numerous monuments to tell its history. A visit to one of its major cathedrals will take you back to Medieval times, while a walk around Merrion Square will remind you of the glory days. Dublin was ranked as the second-largest city of the British Empire.
Let’s take a stroll to beat the jet lag and admire the gracious buildings that line O’Connell Street, the city’s main thoroughfare. We will discover Trinity College, Ireland’s oldest university and we will visit the Old Library containing thousands of manuscripts, including the 9th century Book of Kells, famous for its precious illuminations.
You will have the afternoon at leisure until we meet again for a welcome dinner to share thoughts about the week ahead!
Day 2 - Dublin - And a taste or two
After your full Irish breakfast, we will continue to explore enchanting Dublin.
We will visit Christchurch Cathedral, first built as a wooden church in 1038, rebuilt in 1172 and fully restored towards the end of the 19th Century. The Cathedral is adorned with funeral monuments and possesses a crypt that stretches under nearly its entire length. Much of the Cathedral's memorabilia is displayed here. We will then continue to St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the lovely Marsh Library.
After lunch, our biggest decision is beer or whiskey! We can continue with a fascinating visit to the Guinness Storehouse located in the Guinness Brewery, Europe’s largest stout-producing brewery. Opened in 1904, the Storehouse was an operational plant for fermenting and storing Guinness. Today it houses a fine exhibition dedicated to the Guinness story. You’ll discover what goes into the making a pint of Guinness, the ingredients, the brewing process, the time, the craft and the passion.
Once the visit concludes, you are invited to the rooftop Gravity Bar to enjoy a pint of Guinness and savor the spectacular views. Or we choose the whiskey route…Group decision over a pint or two?
The balance of the day is at leisure to explore at your own pace.
Day 3 - Kilkenny
This morning we make our way to Kilkenny.
Along the way, we will pass through Phoenix Park, home of the official residence of the President of Ireland and one of Europe’s largest walled city parks. It is also the boyhood home of Winston Churchill.
After a short visit, we will spend our late morning at Powerscourt House and Gardens. After a stroll through the magnificent gardens, we will shop at Avoca for their amazing woolen goods, and have a little tea before setting out to Kilkenny. Upon arrival in Kilkenny, we will tour Kilkenny Castle and have a late pub lunch before checking into our lovely hotel.
Day 4 - Kinsale
Our next two nights will be spent in Kinsale.
On our way from Kilkenny to Kinsale, we stop to visit the Rock of Cashel, one of the most spectacular attractions in all of Ireland. It is a very large iconic complex, and there is nothing like it anywhere else in the world. Also known as Cashel of the Kings, The Rock of Cashel (Carraig Phádraig) is more formally known as St. Patrick’s Rock.
We will arrive early afternoon to Kinsale, where we visit Kinsale Mead Company and take an early evening Culinary Tour. Kinsale is considered the gastronomy capital of Ireland. Our hotel is situated in walking distance of Charles Fort and several iconic pubs with traditional Irish music.
*Breakfast, Culinary Tour
Day 5 - Kinsale - Cloch na Blarney
LET’S GET UP EARLY AND TAKE A WALK! For those who are up to it, we will take an early morning Scilly Walk in Charles Fort before we spend the day in Cobh.
Our first tour will be the Titanic Experience and Museum, then The Queenstown Story, followed by the 15th-century Blarney Castle, one of Ireland’s oldest and most historic castles. It was made famous for its Blarney stone, which is traditionally believed to have the power to bestow the “gift of gab” on those who kiss it. Will you give it a kiss? Many legends tell the story of the Stone, but why not kiss it and find out the truth behind the legend?
We will also visit the nearby Blarney Woolen Mills, with an excellent selection of Irish crafts as well as knits and woolens of all kinds before returning to Kinsale. The evening back in Kinsale will feature a ghost-walk tour before having dinner at a Michelin-acclaimed restaurant.
Day 6 - Killarney - "As sure as the lakes of Killarney reflect the blue heavens above"
Oh, another beautiful day in Ireland! This morning we travel to Molls Gap and Ladies View, two excellent outlook points overlooking Killarney, the valleys and pristine lakes. Molls Gap is a spectacular viewing point for the famous Ring of Kerry.
We will journey on to the enchanting village of Kenmare, nestled between the high mountains and the sea. A heritage town, Kenmare is strategically situated on the Ring of Kerry and is renowned for its natural beauty, fine restaurants, cafes and interesting craft shops. We will be able to enjoy some free time to explore Kenmare before returning to Killarney for a leisurely afternoon.
In the evening we will head to Kate Kearney’s Cottage for traditional Irish night.
Day 7 - Killarney - Top o' the morning to you!
If there was something we didn’t fit in yesterday, we will do it today!
We will spend time exploring Killarney and the surrounding areas. We will take in a Sheepdog Show, the beautiful Muckrose Gardes and maybe even an Irish Dance Workshop! After a walking tour of Killarney, we will visit the wonderful Killarney National Park—feel like a carriage ride?
Before sunset, we will meet our fun guide for a special Killarney Pubs Tour. We will visit some of the oldest pubs, have a pint, a bit of cheer and a lot of Irish craic! A fun evening not to be missed!
Day 8 - Galway
As we make our way to spend the day in Dingle, we will stop at Dingle Distillery for a local whiskey tasting. The day will be spent walking the fun little streets with Dingle Crystal, crafts, and pottery. But then it is the SCENERY!
Galway's scenery is reputed to be one of the most breathtaking in the world and it has some of Ireland’s finest coastal vistas. Here, the Irish language and traditional ways of life are preserved. The narrow passage around the Peninsula is truly spectacular. We will take a ferry across to Shannon and make our way to the Cliffs of Mohr before reaching Galway.
We will have stops along the way–expect the unexpected! Taking care of YOU!
Day 9 - Galway
This morning we will visit Clonmacnoise, one of the most famous monasteries in all of Ireland.
And if time allows, maybe we even shuck a few oysters!
After an afternoon Galway walking tour, visiting the Spanish Arch, Lynch’s Castle and the Galway Museum, you can finish up your shopping and explore on your own.
Day 10 - Dublin
Mid-morning, we will make our way to Dublin, stopping at the world’s oldest pub for a farewell with our driver/guide. You never know who you might meet in Sean’s Bar and who may share a tale or two!
Once we check into our hotel—this is your last chance for a bit of Irish fun, shopping and craic before a farewell dinner and entertainment.
