Day 4 - Women and Wine...Your Journey

Today we begin our journey of Women and Wine. In the morning, we will travel south from Barcelona, via a regional train into the beautiful views of the D.O. Priorat (Priorat viticulture area) – one of Spain’s most dynamic wine regions.

This region is known for its powerful red wines made predominantly from old-vine Grenache. We will step inside the first charter-house on the Iberian Peninsula, the Carthusian Monastery of Scala Dei (Latin for “Ladder of God”) to have our first toast from the first winery in Priorat. Scala Dei had a great influence on the local winemakers from centuries ago and we will meet the most famous of them today. After a lunch of local delicious food and wine, we will visit a woman-owned winery and have a tasting with the winemaker. This winery is a mother/daughter team carrying on centuries of family wine-making. We will taste their wines and learn about their harvest processes. Our day will end when we arrive in the picturesque village of Torroja del Priorat. There will be a hands on demonstration of our dinner preparation and gastronomic secrets shared. Our accommodations will be quaint and intimate. An evening for relaxing and basking in the best moments of your dream vacation.

*Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 - Meet Another Winemaker in the Prioriat Region

After a sumptuous breakfast, we will will drive to meet the most charming man and winemaker of the Priorat region

He and his son, the chief wine maker and vineyard manager, are recognized internationally for their wine-making in two different wine regions.

There will be a fascinating 4 x 4 tour up the mountainside.

We will discuss the herbs, the landscape and all of the attributes that go into making wines of this region. After the tour with this charming winemaker, we will have a private tasting of eight wines (red, white, Priorat and Montsant) at his Montsant estate. Even a non-wine drinker will love his day! Amazing views, great food and lovely company!

The varietal shades of the wines will leave a lasting impression of your visit to this beautiful region, the estate and the adorable winemaker!

Once we leave the wine estate, we will visit the village of Gratallops, where the first contemporary wines of the Priorat were introduced in the '80s. We will have a tasting of wine and local sausages before we visit Siurana for lunch in a beautiful village.

Siurana, the last Moorish stronghold in Catalonia has stunning views and an incredible sunset. Our guide will share a story about Queen Abdelazia, a beautiful princess who leapt to her death astride her white stallion in 1153. Would you like to see the hoof imprint over the cliffs? This day is certainly made for Queens and you will be treated like royalty!

*Breakfast, Lunch
